Products I Want To Use Up: Update #4

I figured it was time to do an update on my progress as we've moved into a new year! Especially as I've managed to finish three more products and making good progress with others. If you missed it, I've decided to have this more as an always-ongoing project rather than a finish-by-the-end-of-the-year specific. This means that I'll keep on adding more items as I finish them, always having 10 "on the go".

To compare my progress with last time you can check out my last update - here - and I'll also list my past posts for you in case your new around here and would like to check those out first;

First post . Update #1 . Update #2 . Update #3 .

When I started the year I wanted to try and make a habit out of using these products every other week, the other week using nothing from this project and only other products. This way I wouldn't get too sick of everything, and I would get to enjoy all of the other items I've bought for the sake of using them and not gathering dust. This started out really well, but I've kind of swayed from it after all, ending up incorporating one or two items every week instead. I've loved doing it this way as I've finally been able to enjoy a lot of different products in my "collection" and have been rotating through a lot of different products. We'll see which of the two "styles" I'll eventually land on, but I guess I might just do a mix of the two throughout the year.

First I'll start with three products I finished. The first one to go was the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Perle ( limited edition ). This had almost nothing left on my last update and lasted for about another week, and not even with everyday use.

After that I finished my favourite foundation; Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation ( review - here ). I added this one to the project last time and it went pretty fast. Like I said it's my favourite foundation, so it wasn't very hard to use up. I've got a backup waiting, but I want to finish a few more foundations I have open before opening that one.

Another product I added to the project last time, and managed to finish was the MAC Tendertone in Hot 'N' Saucy ( limited edition ). I used this a lot when I was studying for exams as it was the perfect quick tint to the lips, whilst also being a nice lip balm. I loved this and miss it, but have bought the RMS Lip Shine in Sacred to replace it and I'm very excited to finally be giving that a go.

My Chanel Joues Contraste in Espiegle ( discontinued ) is barely showing any progress, despite me using it pretty much everyday for over two months. It's definitely a lot "flatter" than last time, though that's not very easy to see in the pictures. I've decided to take a little break from it as I don't want to get sick of it, but I do still love the way it looks and applies, so I'm ok with it still being part of my collection.

Chanel Lotus ( here ) was barely moving with me just using it as an inner corner highlight, but since I started using it as a face highlighter it's been moving a lot faster. While it's been a surprisingly beautiful highlighter, I am starting to get seriously bored with it and want it to just be gone already. I've been tempted to take a break but I'm so close I want to stick to it until it's gone. There's just a bit of product left around the edges and it's starting to get difficult to apply, so I don't see this staying around for too much longer.

I've used the Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturiser ( here ) here and there, but not enough to see a lot of progress. There's some though, as it's gotten harder to get the product out, so I think I'm nearing the end. I think I might be half way dreading it as I really like this, but I've had it for a bit too long now so it really is time I use it up, especially as I don't want it to go bad before I get the chance to.

My two MAC Eyeshadows in Romp and Omega has been showing absolutely no progress almost through the entirety of last year, in spite of me using them quite a lot. But then in December I had the idea of using Romp lightly blended across the lid as a one-shadow look and it was really really pretty. So pretty in face that I'm not looking forward to it being finished as much as I was because Romp ( discontinued ) has been discontinued. Despite seeming like a very basic brown shimmery shade, it's really something special when you apply and really blend it across the lid. The gold makes the shade warm, but without being at all orange. Using it like this everyday I've definitely made a nice amount of progress, but as I've focused my brush more around the edges there's not too much more pan, but the edges are definitely starting to flatten out more. I've got long ways to go, but having found this way to use it I think it will be a lot easier to finish - perhaps by the end of 2015?

Omega ( here ), well I'll be honest, I've barely used at all since last time. I'm thinking of taking it out of the project, but I'll keep it in for now. Not because I don't want to use it at all ever, if that was the case I'd just give it away. It's because, in spite of me actually not using it much for the last 2-3 months, it's become a staple in my collection. The crease colour of choice when I have nothing in just the right tone or colour to go with whatever else is on my lid. And so when I finish it I'd probably just re-purchase, and it's so boring with use-it-up projects where things just get re-purchased anyway.

And now for my final two products. A product I added last time; the Clarins Instant Smooth Self Tanning Primer ( here ), I've made good progress on. I used this a lot through December as I mostly had no obligations and could take my time getting ready in the mornings. When I use this I like to leave it on to "set" for a short while before applying my makeup as it is in fact a self-tanner and I don't want to end up looking streaky. The fact that it is a self-tanner also makes this something I'm finding myself going through rather quickly. This as I tend to use more product than I normally would with a regular primer. With a regular primer I tend to apply it to the center of my face and then just blend that outwards not caring if I get it everywhere. With this I need it to be even and everywhere as, again (I know), it's a self-tanner and I can't have it just here and there. Since school started again I've used this less as I don't have the time in the mornings, but I'm enjoying using it on the days when I have some extra time, and I do use a fair bit each time so I think this is something I'll finish before I get bored of it at least.

The Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer ( here ) was one I thought I would finish in no time as I thought I only had a very small amount left. Well, turns out I was fooled by the packaging as the amount I thought I had left of this when I started on it in my Finish 5 by Fall project, is what I actually, for real this time, have left now. I've started having to dip the brush back in a few times to use it, so that should indicate I'm nearing the end, but we'll see!

And now for the three products I will be adding! A cream blush, another concealer and another foundation.

I've decided to do the unthinkable and finish my favourite cream blush of all time; Nars Cream Blush in Penny Lane ( discontinued ). This has been discontinued a while ago and as it's still to this day the only cream blusher I've actually enjoyed using I've wanted to keep it around. The thing is, cream products go bad, quickly, and instead of "saving it" for nobody knows what, I'd rather use it while it's good as I certainly don't want to throw this out before it's all used. I've hit pan and there's quite a big dip, but I'd say I've got about half left.

Remember this? The Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit ( here ) was all the rage on youtube a few years back and people were flying through it left and right, and re-purchasing again and again. Mine is certainly not from those days (then it would be going in the trash), but it's getting close to two years old so I would like to finish it. It's still good, I do like it, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to use up. I also quite like to set the concealer with the powder so I'll be using that as well.

Finally I have a new foundation to add; Armani Luminous Silk ( here ). A blogger favourite, and I do have a review coming up. I love this, and would just like to use it up as I want to downsize and stop having to worry about foundations going off. I've got a bit less then half of this left.

**
And that's it! If you've been thinking about doing a downsize project for the year, but don't want to commit to something too formal and strict I'd really recommend something like this as it's been a lot of fun last year, and I don't doubt it will be the coming year as well. If you are already doing some kind of use-it-up challenge I'd love to hear about it and good luck!
