Born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 19, 1972, Alyssa Jayne Milano is the daughter of Thomas, a film music editor, and Lin, a fashion designer.
Alyssa Milano is best known for her role as Phoebe in the series Charmed (1998-2006). Milano has been a familiar face on TV since co-starring in the hit sitcom Who's the Boss?, where she spent her childhood (1984-92) as tomboy Samantha Micelli, the TV daugher to star Tony Danza. In the early '90s she appeared in low-budget films and TV movies, and in 1997 she joined the cast of the primetime soap opera Melrose Place, where she spent two seasons as bratty babe Jennifer Mancini. Charmed, a series about three sisters with supernatural powers, debuted in 1998 and ran for eight seasons. Milano stayed throughout the show's many changes, including the departure of original star Shannen Doherty and the addition of newcomer Rose McGowan. She also sings (she released several records in the early 1990s), does charity work and appears in TV commercials (1-800-Collect and Veet). A longtime baseball fan, Milano writes a blog about her favorite team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and is behind the Touch line of ballpark apparel. She also covered the 2007 baseball playoffs for cable TV as part of TBS: Hot Corner (also seen on MLB.com). Her feature film credits include Fear (1996, with Mark Wahlberg), Hugo Pool (1997, with Patrick Dempsey) and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star (2003).
Following her stint on "Charmed," which ended in 2006, Milano had a recurring role on "My Name is Earl" (NBC, 2005-09), playing the crazy third wife of the titular petty thief (Jason Lee), who hates the fact that he spends more time working on improving his karma by correcting the past than spending time with her. In 2007, the lifelong baseball fan served as a post-season correspondent for MLB.com's new broadband channel, "TBS Hot Corner." Back to television movies, she starred in "Wisegal" (Lifetime, 2008), playing a widowed wife and mother, who becomes involved with the Mafia and rises up the ranks, only to discover the danger it poses to her two sons. After appearing in an episode of the hit comedy procedural "Castle" (ABC, 2009- ), Milano returned to the sitcom world as the star of her own show, "Romantically Challenged" (ABC, 2010- ), playing a recently divorced mom who dives back into the world of dating after a long absence, while at the same time, shifting gears from family life to being the sole breadwinner.
