Packaging
Like all Japanese products, this palette comes in a separate plastic case which I don't like. I can never understand why they cannot simply print the instructions onto the back of the actually palette and cling wrap it like Western brands such as L'oreal.
I hate having to keep that plastic case just because I want to keep the instructions. It is a hassle.
The actual palette looks like as below.
KATE drew the windows on the cover, so you can see all the 5 colours without opening the palette.
And on the back of the actual palette, there is sticker of the name and product code.
When you open the palette, you see the five colours neatly divided by black frames.
I think the frames are a nice change to the standard 4 squares quad. But honestly, I can't really appreciate it. It is pretty, yet those no frills Wet 'n' Wild palettes are pretty too! To me, I think the colours in the pan play a more important role to whether I will actually buy a palette or not, and not so much the packaging itself.
Overall, I find Japanese packaging a little too overboard, but no major complains. Just live with it.
Colours
BR-2 is the peach palette, KATE has this Real Create Eyes range of palette in baby blue, peppermint, maroon, and brown too. But of the five, I really don't like the other four because the colours don't appear as much as this peach one.
The swatch is below, starting from the colour on the top left, which is actually a cream eyeshadow base.
They are so pretty, so sweet, so neutral isn't it? =)
The Cream Eyeshadow Base
This is the one gripe I have about the Real Create Eyes palette, =(, because this does not works. It's pretty when swatched, but when I use it on my eyelids, it is chunky, and makes the eyeshadow crease instead of enhancing the eyeshadows. So to me, what's the point of having it in the palette?
And so, I ended not using it after some time.
Lasting, No Creasing, No Fading
Yes! This is the best news you can hear from an eyeshadow review right? =D I adore all the colours, and this palette largely because the eyeshadows are incredibly lasting, more than 12 hours. I can have it on from 12pm, and it is still so perfect at 12am. No crease, no colour fade. Perfect!
And the best news? I didn't use any primer, no UDPP, no Too Faced, nothing.
My daily routine normally does not includes UDPP. I only use my Garnier Light BB Cream, powder on top with Make Up For Ever HD Powder, and apply the eyeshadow.
This is what it looks like on the eye. (There's another photo of eye in my FOTD post that was linked in the first sentence.)
I didn't follow the instructions on the packaging. I used the lightest powder shadow all over my mobile lids, right up to the orbital bone. Then pat that peach colour all over the mobile lid only, concentrating a lot on the middle. Next, I pushed that champagne brown from the center of the palette into my crease (where you see my double eyelid line is). From there, I pulled the champagne brown up to about 1/3 from the outer corner. Lastly, I touched the darkest brown once, and swept it along my top lash line 1/3 in, then draw a V by pulling that darkest brown into my crease.
All of that, I did with one brush only, the Real Techniques Eye Shader Brush. The same can be done with M.A.C 217. But I am now testing the Real Techniques brushes, so I refrain from using 217 (my favourite).
So with that, you can see my eyes now look more 3D, with the inner and outer corners darker, and the light colour all over the ball of my eyes. I really love how the KATE palette allows me to create that multidimensional effect on the outer corner so effortlessly. The layering of the dark brown over the champagne brown gives the outer corner so much more depth.
As I am always not too sure if my wordy narration makes any sense to you, the reader, I've decided to slot in a picture tutorial for Asian eyes right here. I've personally sat through it, and agree with what the lady says on how to apply eyeshadows for Asian eyes, so this is quality-controlled. =) I wouldn't want to waste your time on a lousy video.

The Best Part of the Finish - Iridescence
I think the best part of this BR-2 KATE Real Create Eyes is that it looks so innocently neutral from the front, but once my head turns, the light seeps out of the browns, and you can all of a sudden see the browns very dark and clear, like what you see in the photo below.
So this way, I get away with superbly inoffensive daytime makeup, yet when I turn, it's almost turns into night time.
To top up the look, I went with a neutral blush for my medium skin tone, that is M.A.C Small Vanity from the Glamour Daze collection 2012.
I also did a bit of contouring at the top of my nose bridge with Benefit's Hoola Bronzer.
And finished with Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Fruiti, which is an orange, but turns out coral on my darker lips.
I recommend this, 4.5/5!
I still think that eyeshadow base is extra, and useless. But BR-2 is an incredibly beautiful peach palette to own from the drugstore. It has a suitable sheen, and suitable shimmer; the signature Japanese sheer shimmer-sparkle without going overboard, yet it is able to maintain the high pigmentation, such that all the colours show up as in pan.
I feel like this is definitely counter brand standard, and am reminded a lot of Esprique Precious, Lunasol Kanebo (because KATE is by Kanebo too I guess). It is easily one of the best drugstore eyeshadow palettes you can get, other than the Canmake ones.
Over the last 4-5 years, I have grown to dislike drugstore eyeshadows because I can never quite find anything good from L'oreal, Revlon, Maybelline or Silkygirl. I am glad that Japanese brands and Korean brands have entered our market with higher quality products. It's just a pity that we don't have Wet 'n' Wild eyeshadows here.
PS: While I think BR-2 is a very good starter palette to acquire, I will not vouch for any of the other four colours in the Real Create Eyes Range, because no matter how many times I swatch in store, I still find them quite bad, and can't bring myself to try anything more than BR-2.
Have you tried any of the Real Create Eyes palettes? Or have you found any other good stuff from KATE?
